CCTV Installation for Every Property Type
Every property has different security risks, blind spots, and priorities. Whether you need cameras covering a family home, a busy retail floor, or a multi-site commercial estate, the right system starts with understanding what you are actually protecting and why.
For Homeowners
You want to protect your family, your belongings, and your peace of mind. Maybe you have had a break-in on your street, or you simply want to know what is happening at home while you are at work. We design discreet, easy-to-use home CCTV systems with remote viewing from your phone or tablet. Our engineers visit your property, assess the layout, and recommend the right cameras for your driveways, entrances, gardens, and boundaries. No jargon, no pressure, and a clear price before any work begins.
For Business Owners
Your premises, stock, equipment, and staff all need protecting. But off-the-shelf cameras rarely cover every angle, and a system that does not integrate with your existing alarms or access control creates gaps. We provide commercial-grade CCTV with HD and 4K recording, 24/7 monitoring from our Alarm Receiving Centre, and full integration with intruder alarms and access control. Every system is designed around your site, your risk profile, and your compliance needs.
For Property Managers & Landlords
Managing multiple properties means you need surveillance you can monitor from one place without driving between sites. Scaling systems up as your portfolio grows should be straightforward, not a headache. We install networked CCTV systems with central remote access across all your properties. Our maintenance contracts keep every camera working, and our monitoring team responds around the clock so you do not have to.
Common Applications
Types of CCTV Systems We Install
Choosing the right CCTV system means understanding the differences between camera types, recording methods, and connection options. Here is a plain-English breakdown.
Camera Types
Dome Cameras
Compact and discreet; popular for indoor use in offices, shops, and residential hallways. Their rounded housing makes it difficult for anyone to tell which direction the lens is pointing.
Bullet Cameras
Designed for outdoor use. Their longer, cylindrical shape provides a focused field of view over greater distances — well suited to driveways, car parks, perimeters, and building entrances.
PTZ Cameras (Pan-Tilt-Zoom)
Can be controlled remotely to pan, tilt, and zoom in on specific areas. Typically used in large commercial sites, warehouses, and public spaces where operators need to track movement in real time.
IP Cameras
Connect to your network rather than running through traditional coaxial cables. Higher resolution, remote access, and simpler expansion with other security systems. Now the standard for most new installations.
System Comparisons
Analogue vs IP CCTV
Traditional analogue systems transmit via coaxial cables to a DVR — reliable and cost-effective for smaller setups. Modern IP systems transmit over a network, providing higher resolution, remote access, and simpler expansion. For most new installations, IP offers better long-term value.
Wired vs Wireless CCTV
Wired CCTV offers consistent, interference-free performance for permanent installations. Wireless suits properties where cabling is impractical, such as listed buildings or rented premises. Both have clear strengths — we recommend a professional site survey to determine the best fit.
Recording: DVR vs NVR
A DVR records video from analogue cameras. An NVR works with IP cameras over a network. Both store footage reliably — the right choice depends on your camera type and expansion plans.
Resolution Options
1080p (Full HD) is the minimum we recommend. 2K and 4K (8MP) systems provide significantly sharper detail and are particularly valuable for retail, car parks, and entrance points where identification matters.
How Our CCTV Installation Works
Knowing what to expect makes the whole process easier. Here is how a typical CCTV installation works from first contact to a fully operational system.
Free Site Survey
An accredited engineer visits your property to assess the layout, identify blind spots, and discuss your security priorities. We look at entry points, lighting conditions, cable routes, and any areas of concern. No obligation and no charge.
System Design & Quote
Based on the survey, we design a system that fits your property and your budget. You receive a fixed-price quote covering cameras, recording equipment, cabling, installation, and configuration. No hidden costs and no surprises.
Professional Installation
Our NSI Gold accredited engineers carry out the installation with minimal disruption. Cables are concealed where possible, cameras positioned for optimal coverage, and all equipment securely mounted. Residential: typically one day. Commercial: one to three days.
Configuration & Training
We configure remote viewing on your smartphone, tablet, or PC. We set up motion detection zones, alert preferences, and recording schedules. Then we walk you through everything so you are confident using the system from day one.
Ongoing Support & Monitoring
After installation, you have the option of 24/7 monitoring from our Alarm Receiving Centre, where trained operators respond to alerts day and night. We also offer planned maintenance contracts to keep your system performing at its best.
CCTV System Features
The cameras on the wall are only part of the picture. Here are the features that make a professionally installed CCTV system worth the investment.
HD & 4K Video
Crystal-clear footage that captures the detail needed for identification and evidence. Whether you need to read a number plate or identify a face, image quality makes the difference.
Night Vision
Built-in infrared provides clear images in complete darkness. Most incidents happen outside daylight hours, so 24/7 visibility is essential. Automatic day/night switching with no quality drop.
Remote Viewing
Monitor live and recorded footage from your smartphone, tablet, or computer, wherever you are. Consistently the feature our customers value most.
Motion Detection & Smart Alerts
Instant notifications when activity is detected. Systems can distinguish between vehicles, people, and animals — dramatically reducing false alerts.
Integration with Alarms & Access Control
CCTV alongside your intruder alarm and access control gives a complete security setup. When a door is forced or alarm triggers, cameras automatically record.
Secure Storage
Choose between local DVR/NVR recording, cloud-based storage, or both. Local keeps data under your control. Cloud provides off-site backup even if equipment is stolen.
Why Choose Bell for Your CCTV Installation?
"Every site is different. We spend time on the survey because getting the camera positions right is what separates a system that works from one that just records blank walls."

CCTV Maintenance & Monitoring Services
A CCTV system is only as good as the day it stops working. Cameras that have shifted position, lenses covered in grime, or a recorder with a failing hard drive can mean the footage you need simply is not there when you need it most.
What Maintenance Includes
Our CCTV camera installation and maintenance service covers everything to keep your system performing reliably. Planned maintenance visits are scheduled at intervals that suit your business, and each visit is fully documented.
- ✓ Regular system health checks
- ✓ Camera lens cleaning
- ✓ Firmware and software updates
- ✓ Recording integrity checks
- ✓ Cable and connection inspections
- ✓ Camera angle verification
Why Maintenance Matters
Degraded cameras miss incidents. A system installed correctly two years ago can lose effectiveness if unchecked. Dust, weather, vibration, and software updates all affect performance. For commercial properties, maintaining functional CCTV is often a condition of insurance cover and regulatory compliance.
CCTV Maintenance & Monitoring Services
With our monitoring service, your CCTV feeds are watched by trained operators at our Alarm Receiving Centre around the clock. When activity is detected, they respond in real time — contacting keyholders, escalating alerts, or liaising with police. For businesses, this removes the burden of responding to every alert yourself, especially outside working hours.
CCTV Maintenance & Monitoring Services
If a camera fails, a cable is damaged, or your recorder stops working, our engineers are available for call-out repairs. We carry common replacement parts and aim to resolve issues quickly. Maintenance contract customers receive priority scheduling.

How Much Does CCTV Installation Cost?
CCTV installation costs vary based on property size, number of cameras, system type, and recording requirements. There is no single answer because every property is different. Here are the main factors that influence price.
Number of Cameras
More cameras increase total cost, but per-camera price typically falls as the system scales.
Camera Type
Standard dome cameras are more affordable than PTZ. 4K provides noticeably better quality.
Wired vs Wireless
Wired may involve more installation labour; wireless can carry higher equipment cost.
Recording System
Basic DVR costs less than NVR with cloud backup. Storage capacity and retention affect pricing.
Monitoring
24/7 ARC monitoring is optional with a monthly fee. Self-monitored app alerts included as standard.
Because every installation is different, the most accurate way to get a price is through a site survey. We visit your property, assess your needs, and provide a fixed-price quote covering everything — no hidden charges.

CCTV Legal Requirements & Compliance
Installing CCTV comes with responsibilities, especially when cameras capture footage of other people. Here is what you need to know.
Domestic CCTV
Homeowners are generally free to install CCTV on their own property. However, if cameras capture footage beyond your boundary — such as a neighbour's driveway or public pavement — you may become a data controller under UK GDPR. Best practice: position cameras to cover only your own property and display signage.
Business CCTV
Businesses operating CCTV must register with the ICO and comply with UK GDPR. You must display clear signage, respond to subject access requests, and store footage securely with controlled access. Every commercial system we install meets current data protection requirements from day one.
Employee Monitoring
Using CCTV to monitor employees is legal in the UK provided it is done for a legitimate purpose such as preventing theft or ensuring health and safety. Employees must be informed. Covert surveillance is only permitted in exceptional circumstances.
Data Retention
There is no fixed legal requirement for how long you must keep footage, but the ICO recommends retaining recordings only as long as needed. For most businesses, 30 days is standard. We configure storage to match your retention policy and compliance obligations.
We make sure every installation meets current UK data protection requirements. Unsure about your legal obligations? Our team can walk you through the basics during your site survey.

Frequently Asked Questions About CCTV Installation
The cost depends on the number of cameras, camera type, wired or wireless setup, recording system, and whether you add 24/7 monitoring. A small residential system with two or three cameras will cost considerably less than a multi-camera commercial installation with cloud storage and ARC monitoring. The best way to get an accurate figure is to book a free site survey, where we assess your property and provide a fixed-price quote with no obligation.
For most Scotland homes, an IP camera system with at least 1080p resolution, night vision, and smartphone remote viewing gives you the best combination of image quality, ease of use, and value. The number and type of cameras depend on your property layout. A front door and driveway camera might be enough for a flat, while a detached house may need four or more to cover entrances, the garden, and side access. We design every home system around the property, not around a one-size-fits-all package.
Wired systems are more reliable because they do not depend on Wi-Fi signal strength. They are the better choice for permanent installations, especially in commercial settings. Wireless systems are easier to install in properties where running cables is difficult, such as listed buildings or rented spaces. Neither option is universally better. The right choice depends on your property, which is why we always recommend a site survey before making a decision.
A standard residential installation with two to four cameras usually takes one day. Commercial installations range from one to three days depending on the number of cameras, cable routing, and integration with other security systems. We confirm the timeline during the quoting stage so you know exactly what to expect.
For most domestic and commercial properties, planning permission is not required for CCTV installation. However, if you live in a listed building or a conservation area, there may be restrictions on external camera placement. We can advise on this during your site survey and help you choose camera styles and positions that comply with any local requirements.
This depends on your recording system and storage capacity. Most systems store between 14 and 30 days of footage before overwriting the oldest recordings. We configure retention periods based on your needs and, for businesses, in line with ICO guidance. Cloud-based storage options can extend retention if you need to keep footage for longer.
Yes. Every system we install includes remote viewing capability. You can watch live and recorded footage from your smartphone, tablet, or computer using a secure app. This works over mobile data or Wi-Fi, so you can check your property from anywhere with an internet connection.
Yes. We offer planned maintenance contracts that include regular system health checks, camera cleaning, firmware updates, and recording tests. We also provide call-out repair services. If a camera stops working or a recorder develops a fault, our engineers respond quickly to get your system back up and running. Maintenance contract customers receive priority scheduling.
